Sherry Mattfield

Branch 16 Auxiliary President

NAPS auxiliary notes

Hey, everyone, I’m Sherry Mattfield. I’m the new Branch 16 Auxiliary President (and North Central Area Vice President).

This past year I was invited to attend LTS in March and the State Convention in May. I learned so much about the need and importance of NAPS. I also found out the importance of the NAPS Auxiliary and the members’ role, within the association.

We not only support our individual NAPS members through legislative efforts (emails) but make a huge difference in increasing the funding for SPAC used for legislative efforts, fighting to increase your pay, benefits and much more.

In LTS our NAPS Auxiliary table alone (one of three tables in that event), selling gift cards, we earned $4,500 which we were told has never been achieved before. Then, at the most recent 2-day State Convention, alongside Elly Soukey, North Central Area Auxiliary President, we earned over $1,200 for SPAC through gift cards, 50/50 sales and a silent auction. This was also a first, I was told.

The only way to continue this SPAC monetary success is to grow. Increasing new NAPS membership sign-ups is #1, with increasing the Auxiliary memberships, to follow.

Until NAPS and Auxiliary members attend one of these events, they have no idea how far their voice can travel and influence change, one member at a time.

For the Auxiliary to be successful recruiting new members, NAPS needs to be successful in recruiting also.
So as a NAPS Supervisor/Manager, if you know of a post office counterpart who is NOT currently a member, NOT represented by NAPS, tell them the reasons they need to join Branch 16 NAPS, (not only for the immediate local protective representation, but a Disciplinary Defense Fund will be made available to support them, if further disciplinary action is attempted). The annual dues are so nominal compared to the members benefits.

(Also, a free meal is included at all Branch 16 meetings and money drawings for those in attendance).

NOTE: Each NAPS member is entitled to name one spouse, family member, significant other or friend (required to be at least 16 years of age) to be their representative, joining our Branch 16 Auxiliary.

Please be the support and the voice NAPS needs.
